Diuretic Abuse

Peoples, particularly teenage girls and young women are recently started taking diuretics for reducing their body weight. Diuretics are class of drugs which is commonly used for increase the urine output and reduce the blood pressure. Because peoples consider that the weight loss is due to reduction of fat. Diuretics have no effect on calorie absorption, and the diuretics induced weight loss is due to loss of water from our body. When the diuretics are stopped, rehydration occurs, and weight returns to normal. Abuse of  diuretics leads to be dangerous. It may cause Electrolyte (body salts) imbalance, reduce the magnesium in the blood, Polyuria ( producing large amounts of urine), Kidney damage, Blood in the urine (hematurial), Pyuria (pus in the urine).
