The Department of Pharmacy Practice at JKKN College of Pharmacy conducted a significant awareness program on Hemophilia on April 17, 2024, coinciding with World Hemophilia Day. This event took place at the Government Headquarters Hospital in Erode and was aimed at raising public awareness about the disorder.
The program was inaugurated by Dr. Venkatesh, the Hospital Superintendent of Government Headquarters Hospital, Erode. In his opening remarks, Dr. Venkatesh highlighted the importance of public awareness regarding Hemophilia, a genetic disorder that impairs the body’s ability to control blood clotting. He emphasized how such awareness initiatives can play a crucial role in early diagnosis and treatment, which are vital for managing this condition effectively. Dr. Kanimozhi, a pediatrician at the same hospital, also contributed to the event by felicitating the program.
A noteworthy feature of the awareness program was the active participation of Pharm D students from JKKN College of Pharmacy. These students played a pivotal role by engaging directly with patients and the public. They distributed pamphlets that provided valuable information about Hemophilia, including its symptoms, diagnosis, and the treatments available at the hospital. Furthermore, they took the time to explain these details thoroughly, ensuring that the public could understand the importance of recognizing the signs of Hemophilia early and seeking prompt medical intervention. The involvement of Pharm D students in such programs is crucial not only for educational purposes but also for their professional development. It provides them with firsthand experience in patient interaction and public education, essential skills for their future roles as pharmacists. This program is coordinated by Dr. Revanth, Assistant Professor, JKKN College of Pharmacy.
